KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee junior point guard Melvin Goins is recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Tuesday and will be back within four weeks.

Senior associate athletic trainer Chad Newman said Goins had surgery Tuesday at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Goins is from San Diego and one of three newcomers this season. He was on the Mid-American Conference's All-Freshman team at Ball State, then played last season at Mt. San Jacinto College in California.

The Volunteers open practice Oct. 16 with their first exhibition Oct. 30 against North Alabama.
