HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Jerome Dyson and two other Connecticut basketball players are missing the Huskies opening exhibition game Wednesday night against American International because of problems with their eligibility paperwork.

The school says it hopes to have the issues surrounding the eligibility of Dyson and Donnell Beverly resolved as early as Thursday. UConn said it is simply waiting for the NCAA to finish a "routine educational document review for eligibility certification."

The school says the NCAA eligibility center has requested some academic records of freshman Jamal Coombs-McDaniel and has not granted him the initial clearance to play.

Dyson, a senior and starter, is expected to be a key cog for Connecticut, which is ranked No. 12 in the preseason poll. Beverly and Coombs-McDaniel were both expected to see time off the bench.
