LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Louisville defensive coordinator Bill Miller has left the Cardinals to take a co-defensive coordinator position at Kansas.

Miller spent one season with the Wildcats as linebackers coach and was promoted to defensive coordinator last month when Ron English left to become head coach at Eastern Michigan.

Miller, a native of Hutchinson, Kan., says the opportunity to be closer to his family was a major reason behind the decision.

Miller came to Louisville from Western Michigan, where he molded the Broncos into one of the better defenses in the Mid-American Conference. Miller had previously coached at Arizona State, Florida and Miami, among others.

Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe says he plans to name Miller's replacement next week.
