Boston College names Spaziani new coach |
Boston College will name defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani as its new head football coach at a 3 p.m. news conference, SI.com has learned. Passed over for the same position two years ago when Jeff Jagodzinski was hired, Spaziani, who has been at The Heights 12 years, brings stability to a program that was in "crisis mode" last week, according to one source close to the program. Spaziani, who played and coached under Joe Paterno at Penn State, fits the loyalty requirements set out by athletic director Gene DeFilippo following Jagodzinski's firing because of his close ties to BC and DeFilippo. Though Spaziani has never been a full-time head coach, he became BC's interim coach in 2006 when Tom O'Brien left to become coach of North Carolina State before the Eagles played in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. BC beat Navy 25-24 in that game. ![]() | ![]()
