CINCINNATI (AP) -- The NCAA has denied Cincinnati receiver Vidal Hazelton's request to be eligible to play this season.

NCAA rules require players who transfer from one major college team to another to sit out one season.

Hazelton transferred to Cincinnati from Southern California to be closer to his cancer-stricken grandfather in Georgia. The NCAA said there was not sufficient evidence that Hazelton was responsible for taking care of his grandfather.

Hazelton led USC with 50 catches in 2007. He was hampered by an ankle injury last season and made six catches in eight games.

He will have one year of eligibility remaining and be able to play in the 2010 season.
