DALLAS (AP) -- Family members say the father of SMU record-setting quarterback Justin Willis was fatally shot while in Dallas.

Samuel Willis of Denton was the victim of a home invasion murder late Friday at a residence he was visiting. He was 46.

Sandra Willis told The Dallas Morning News that her husband was a psychiatric technician and counseled adolescents dealing with substance abuse problems.

Dallas police say there was an exchange of gunfire between the homeowner and the assailants. Police said Monday that no one was arrested and the investigation continues.

Justin Willis was the 2006 Conference USA freshman of the year and set numerous school passing records in 2007. Willis, entering his senior season, is now a wide receiver for the Mustangs. His 57 touchdowns are the most in the program's history.
