ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -- Sheldon White has been promoted to vice president of pro personnel by the Detroit Lions.

White has served as director of pro personnel since 2000. In that position, he headed a team of scouts responsible for evaluating all NFL players, including current Detroit players, and consulted with others in the front office on free agency and draft issues.

White played six seasons as a defensive back in the NFL, the first two with the New York Giants -- who drafted him in the third round in 1988 -- three with Detroit and one with Cincinnati.

White coached wide receivers at his alma mater, Miami of Ohio, from 1994-96 before rejoining the Lions in 1997. He spent five years in various scouting positions before becoming director of pro personnel.
