WILMINGTON, Mass. (AP) -- Boston Bruins defenseman Matt Hunwick was taken to a hospital Saturday to be checked for a spleen injury.

Hunwick wasn't feeling well after the team meeting Saturday morning, ahead of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference playoff series against Montreal.

"It's related to his spleen, and that's all I can tell you right now," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "He obviously didn't feel very good, so our trainers did what was right and called an ambulance and hopefully we can get some good news here as we move on."

Veteran Shane Hnidy is expected to take Hunwick's place on the roster.

Hunwick was involved in a Game 1 fight with Montreal's Mike Komisarek and needed stitches above his bloody right eye. But he practiced Friday and showed no signs of feeling sick during the on-ice session.

The team said a medical update is expected before the start of Saturday night's game.

The 23-year-old Hunwick had six goals and 21 assists in 53 games this season. He was selected by Boston in the seventh round of the 2004 draft.
