Team Canada advances to semifinals at worlds

BERN, Switzerland (AP) -- Canada has beaten Latvia 4-2 in the quarterfinals of the ice hockey world championship.

Canada got second-period goals from Dany Heatley, Dan Hamhuis and Steve Stamkos, with Matthew Lombardi adding the fourth in the final period.

Goalie Chris Mason had 21 saves for Canada, while Edgas Masalskis made 44 stops for Latvia.

Canada will face Sweden or the Czech Republic in Friday's semifinals. They played later Thursday.

Defending champion Russia meets the United States in the other semifinal.
