WASHINGTON (AP) -- Capitals star Alex Ovechkin left Sunday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets with an undisclosed upper-body injury early in the second period and did not return.

Ovechkin briefly addressed the media after the game but would not comment on the cause or nature of the injury.

"You think I'm going to tell you?'' he said after being asked what the injury was. He later said it was "upper body'' and termed himself "day-to-day.''

Ovechkin was tangled up with the Blue Jackets' Raffi Torres about 6 minutes into the period and fell to the ice. After he got up, he grimaced and gingerly skated off the ice, heading straight to the locker room.

Earlier in the period, Ovechkin was bumped by Columbus left wing Jason Chimera and he responded with a shove and players from both teams skated over to the scrum. Ovechkin, Chimera and Blue Jackets winger Jared Boll all received minors for roughing, and Boll also received a misconduct.
