LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Prosecutors say they'll seek the death penalty against a man who pleaded not guilty to shooting a former Olympic boxer to death in Las Vegas last August.

A judge set trial in September for 26-year-old Roger Randolph after he appeared in court Tuesday.

Randolph remains held without bail at the Clark County jail.

Prosecutors allege Randolph shot 31-year-old Rhoshii Wells twice with a high-powered rifle Aug. 11 after an argument at an apartment complex.

Prosecutor David Stanton says a third wild shot zipped through a nearby apartment, risking harm to others.

Randolph called the shooting self-defense. He says Wells punched him and robbed him of $100.

Wells was a father of five who won a bronze medal for the United States as a middleweight at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
