OBERHOFEN, Switzerland (AP) -- The opening races of the World Cup ski season in Soelden, Austria, have been confirmed for Oct. 24-25.

The International Ski Federation said Friday that conditions on the Rettenbach glacier were sufficient, with local organizers adding man-made snow to the natural snow already covering the course.

FIS said the forecast calls for "cold temperatures on the glacier until at least middle of next week."

A women's giant slalom will open the season on Oct. 24 with a men's GS a day later.

Lindsey Vonn of the United States and Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway are the defending overall World Cup champions.
