Kramer wins 5,000 at World Cup

BERLIN (AP) -- World champion Sven Kramer of the Netherlands cruised to victory in the 5,000 meters at the season-opening speedskating World Cup meet Saturday.

Kramer covered the distance in 6 minutes, 14.69 seconds for his 24th career World Cup win.

Havard Bokko of Norway was second in 6:17.17, and Bob de Jong of the Netherlands was third in 6:19.22.

Wang Beixing of China won the women's 500 in 37.85 seconds, beating world champion Jenny Wolf of Germany. Wolf clocked 38.04 and Nao Kodaira of Japan was third in 38.19.

Christine Nesbitt of Canada won the 1,000 in 1:15.41, with Kodaira second in 1:15.92 and Marianne Timmer of the Netherlands third in 1:16.13.
