David Reutimann stays hot, wins NASCAR pole at Dover |
DOVER, Delaware (AP) -- David Reutimann won the pole for NASCAR's Autism Speaks 400 on Friday, continuing the best week of his career. Reutimann ran a lap of 156.794 mph (252.32 kph to qualify first at Dover International Speedway only four days after he won his first career Sprint Cup race. Reutimann won the Coca-Cola 600 in the rain, but celebrated the pole on a clear day at the concrete track. Kasey Kahne was second and Juan Pablo Montoya qualified third. Reed Sorenson and Greg Biffle rounded out the top five. Reutimann won Monday's race after three rain delays at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The journeyman driver captured his second pole of the season for Michael Waltrip Racing and third of his 76-race career. Like his victory, Reutimann also had to wait out this result. He went out 11th on Friday and had to watch other drivers take a crack at knocking him off the pole. "I'm kind of a nervous person anyway, so waiting around to see if we won the race and then waiting around to see everybody have a shot at us became nerve-wracking over time," he said. Points leader Jeff Gordon challenged until the No. 24 got loose and slammed into the wall. He'll use his backup car for Sunday's race and start 42nd. Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
