A Picture Says a Thousand Words
At long last, we've reached the final week of this glorious college football campaign. The joy and the pain will fade, but the images, both moving and still, will not. And so in honor of the 2008 season and the people, plays and moments that made it both terrible and great, The Love of Sports presents the top 10 images of '08. Rest assured, Michael Crabtree's last-second grab, JoePa's press box digs and Tim Tebow's tearful postgame press conference are here, but DeAndre Brown's leg-cracking leap is not.
If You Leave Me Now
Word on the street is Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo has threatened to fire football coach Jeff Jagodzinski if Jags even consents to chat with the New York Jets about their head coaching vacancy. When we first heard this, we, like Rumors and Rants, recalled jealous lovers and petulant children. But then it hit us. This isn't just about being jealous and possessive and having a bruised ego. It's also about that whole Boston-NYC rivalry thing we've heard speak of a time or two before. Well, news flash, DeFilippo: BC's in Chestnut Hill, not Boston, so take it down a notch or 20.
Brains, Beauty and Blocking
Slowly but surely, Vanderbilt's showing us all that it really is possible to have brains and brawn. First Jay Cutler, then the '08 Vandy football squad (for a month-and-a-half, at least) and now Christianna Aronstam, a Vanderbilt student and the newest member of the Atlanta Steam. If you're not familiar with the Steam, you clearly don't watch enough Lingerie Football League action.
Uh Oh, Here Comes Another BCS Team
Rush the Court doesn't want to say it. Hates to say it, in fact. But the statistical breakdowns don't lie, and so here it is, from RTC's proverbial mouth to your not-so-proverbial eyes: Stephen Curry is overrated. Now make no mistake, RTC loves itself some Baby Faced Assassin. It just doesn't think NBA teams should feel the same way.
Heel To The Panthers
Play or Get Played got a chance to see the Pitt Panthers manhandle the Georgetown Hoyas this weekend, and would like to share the following observation with you all: Pitt's not only better than Georgetown, UConn, Notre Dame, Syracuse and all the other top-tier Big East ballers, it's better than mighty UNC, too.
Bowling for Gunaxin
You've got to love the 2008 Gunaxin Blog Bowl. Not only does the blog index aggregate the best Internet content for each bowl game, it also leaves readers a hop, skip and click away from the site's numerous "Hot Chicks of *Insert School Name Here*" galleries.
A Woman of the People
Nothing makes us prouder than seeing former Cheerleaders of the Week like Oregon's Amanda taking home unofficial, but still impressive, Internet accolades.
They Keep Him Warm
Pop Culture Nugget
Not only did Cincinnati lose its Orange Bowl matchup with Virginia Tech, it missed the chance to party with Diddy. Talk about a double whammy.
