SAO PAULO (AP) -- Ronaldo scored his first goal since returning to football more than a year after undergoing knee surgery, giving Corinthians a late equalizer against rival Palmeiras in the Sao Paulo state championship on Sunday.

Ronaldo scored with a header off a corner three minutes into injury time, beating his defender on the far post to give Corinthians a 1-1 draw.

Ronaldo ran toward Corinthians' fans behind the goal to celebrate, being mobbed by his teammates and reporters and photographers. Fans brought down a retaining fence after jumping on top of it to celebrate with the veteran striker.

The 32-year-old Ronaldo had already struck the crossbar with a powerful shot from the top of the area in the 78th minute.
