RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) -- Three fans have suffered gunshot wounds as rival supporters clashed outside Maracana stadium before a Rio de Janeiro state championship match.

Two other people reportedly suffered minor injuries Saturday night in the confrontation between Fluminense and Botafogo fans.

The GloboEsporte Web site said a 42-year-old Fluminense fan remained hospitalized, but details of his condition were not immediately available.

Authorities were investigating what happened, but local media said about 20 people took part in the brawl and it appeared that more than one fan was carrying a gun.

The game went ahead as scheduled with increased police security. Fluminense won 2-1.
