Fowler to make debut against Sydney FC
SYDNEY (AP) -- Former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler will make his Australian competition debut for expansion team North Queensland Fury against Sydney FC in Townsville on Aug. 8, the A-League announced Monday.
The draw for 2009-10 season - with the league expanded by two, including Fury and a Gold Coast team in Queensland, to 10 teams - was unveiled Monday. The season will now comprise 27 rounds, six more than previous seasons.
The format for the finals series has also expanded and will now involve the top six teams instead of the top four.
The 34-year-old Fowler signed a two-year deal with North Queensland and is the highest-profile former Premier League star to join the A-League. He made 26 appearance for England, scoring seven goals.
