MLS: Galaxy extends unbeaten streak to 10 games |
TORONTO (AP) -- Substitute Edson Buddle scored the winning goal late in the second half to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 2-1 win over Toronto FC on Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak to 10 games. It also was the first victory for the Galaxy (2-1-9) after five straight draws. They broke a 1-1 tie in the 77th minute when Alan Gordon's pass sent a streaking Buddle in alone to score against his former team. The goal was the second of the year for Buddle, who came on in the 66th minute for Chris Klein. Gordon had given Los Angeles an early lead with his third goal of the year. Eddie Lewis' corner kick in the sixth minute found an unmarked Gordon, who headed a shot past goalkeeper Stefan Frei. Danny Dichio scored for Toronto (4-5-4). Crew 2, Wizards 0 KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) -- Guillermo Barros Schelotto capitalized on an early defensive mistake for a goal, then tacked on a second-half penalty kick for another, and Columbus Crew broke an eight-match road winless streak. Schelotto's eight goals this season tie him with Colorado's Conor Casey, who was on U.S. national team duty Saturday, for the league scoring lead. Andy Gruenebaum made three saves in the Crew's first shutout of the year. Columbus (3-2-7), unbeaten in its last eight matches, had not won away from home since beating New England 2-1 on Sept. 27, 2008. Kansas City is 4-5-4. Real Salt Lake 1, Rapids 1 SANDY, Utah (AP) -- Omar Cummings drilled a shot past goalkeeper Nick Rimando in the 88th minute to give Colorado the tie with Real Salt Lake. Colorado (4-2-5) took advantage after RSL's Robbie Russell picked up his second yellow card in the 82nd minute and was ejected. Yura Movsisyan scored in the 79th minute for RSL (3-6-3). Movsisyan took a pass from Fabian Espindola in the box and dribbled around a defender before beating goalkeeper Matt Pickens. Chivas USA 1, Sounders 0 CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Eduardo Lillingston scored in the 38th minute for Chivas USA. Zach Thornton made three saves to earn his MLS-leading seventh shutout for Chivas USA (8-2-3), which snapped a three-game winless streak and extended the expansion Sounders' winless streak to six. Seattle dropped to 4-3-5. Lillingston scored after teammate Paulo Nagamura took a 7-yard shot that goalkeeper Kasey Keller blocked while sliding toward the left post.
