Lowly Nautico stops first-place Palmeiras 3-0

BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) -- Palmeiras maintained its five-point lead in the Brazilian football league despite a 3-0 loss to Nautico on Monday.

Palmeiras leads the competition with 54 points with Sao Paulo remaining on 49 following a 2-1 loss to Flamengo on Saturday.

Internacional is in third place with 48 points, followed by Atletico Mineiro (47), Goias (46) and Flamengo (45).

Trying to avoid relegation, Nautico went ahead in the 6th minute on a goal by Luiz Claudio and improved to 2-0 in the 42nd on Bruno Mineiro's goal. Irenio capped the scoring with a second-half header.

In Monday's other games it was: Goias 1, Sport 1; Botafogo 2, Avai 2; Santos 0, Vitoria 0; Atletico Mineiro 0, Cruzeiro 1.

On Saturday, Sao Paulo took a 1-0 lead in the 26th, but Flamengo rebounded with goals by Ze Roberto and Serbian Dejan Petkovic.

In other weekend results: Corinthians 2, Gremio 0; Santo Andre 1, Fluminense 2; Coritiba 1, Barueri 2; Internacional 1, Atletico Paranaense 1.
