MILAN (AP) -- Amauri scored an equalizer for Juventus to draw 1-1 at home with Fiorentina in the Serie A on Saturday.

Amauri scored from close range in the 19th minute, 13 minutes after Juan Vargas had scored for Fiorentina.

The result leaves both teams on 15 points. Genoa has 13 points and can go above them into third place if it wins later at Inter Milan, which leads with 16 points.

"I'm happy with my goal, if not the result,'' Amauri said. "We should have done better. We have to try and do better.''

Fiorentina took the lead when Stevan Jovetic cut in from the left wing. The Montenegrin slipped the ball behind the defense, and Vargas flicked the ball over goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta then passed up two opportunities to draw his side level. First, he shot straight at goalkeeper Sebastien Frey after having turned defender Massimo Gobbi.

Then, in the 18th he sliced the ball wide from close range, after Fabio Grosso had found space to cross from the left wing.

Iaquinta was involved when Juventus equalized in the 20th. Christian Poulsen picked him out behind the defense, and he squared for his strike partner Amauri to tap into the empty net.

Fiorentina felt it should have had a second when Vargas curled home a free kick, but the goal was ruled out for Dario Danielli fouling Giorgio Chiellini.

In the second half, both sides seemed to content to save energy for upcoming Champions League matches. Amauri went close with a header, while Alberto Gilardino could only shoot wide in injury time when the ball ran to him in the box.
