Gaitan scores twice, lifts Boca Juniors

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -- Nicolas Gaitan scored twice in the second half to lead Boca Juniors to a 2-1 victory over Tigre on Sunday and move the Argentine powerhouse to the middle of the standings in the Apertura tournament.

Gaitan scored in the 49th and 59th minutes, while Carlos Luna scored in the 78th for Tigre.

League leader San Lorenzo, defeated Rosario Central 1-0 on Friday in the opening game of the round.

San Lorenzo leads with 19 points. Colon, Velez Sarsfield and Argentinos Juniors have 18. Estudiantes, Independiente, Newell's and Banfield have 17. Rosario Central and Boca are next with 14.

In other results on Sunday it was: Independiente 1, Chacarita 1; Huracan 0, River Plate 0; Newell's 2, Estudiantes 1.

On Saturday it was: Gimnasia (LP) 1, Colon 2; Arsenal 1, Banfield 1; Argentinos Juniors 2, Racing Club 0; Atletico Tucuman 1, Godoy Cruz 1.
