BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -- Federico Nieto's hat trick in eight minutes gave Colon de Santa Fe a 3-0 home victory over Huracan in the Argentine league on Tuesday.

Nieto, a former Huracan player, helped to boost Colon to third place in the standings by striking home in the 74th, 81st and 82nd minutes.

The result wrapped up Round 12 of the Argentine Apertura.

Banfield tops the table with 26 points, ahead of Newell's Old Boys on goal difference. Colon and defending champion Velez Sarsfield were two points back.

Banfield beat Estudiantes 2-1 in a top-of-the-table clash on Monday. Santiago Silva and Walter Erviti scored for Banfield, sandwiching Juan Sebastian Veron's strike for Estudiantes.

Newell's had a 2-1 away win against bottom club Tigre to keep pace with Banfield. Mauro Formica opened the scoring for Newell's, before Antonio Boghossian's own goal leveled the score. He corrected his error with the winner five minutes from full-time.

In weekend results, it was: Velez Sarsfield 2, Godoy Cruz 0; Gimnasia La Plata 2, San Lorenzo 2; Racing Club 4, Atletico Tucuman 0; Chacarita Juniors 2, Argentinos Juniors 2; Rosario Central 2, Boca Juniors 1; River Plate 0, Lanus 1; and Arsenal de Sarandi 1, Independiente 0.
