FA looking into suspicious bets after 9-0 away win |
LONDON (AP) -The Football Association will speak to two non-league clubs after Rushden & Diamonds' 9-0 win at Weymouth on Saturday attracted an unusually large amount of betting. Several players had refused to play for Weymouth in the Football Conference, the league below England's four professional divisions, because of a pay dispute. Fans aware of the dispute placed bets on Rushden to win, with more than 10 times as much money than would normally be expected staked with bookmakers. The result, which took Rushden above Weymouth to 11th in the standings, cost bookmakers about 1 million pounds ($1.44 million; ?1.13 million). ![]() |
