
Atlante beats America 3-1 in Mexican Clausura |
MEXICO CITY (AP) -Atlante scored three unanswered goals to overcome an early deficit and beat America 3-1 at Cancun on Sunday in the ninth round of Mexico's Clausura football tournament. America went ahead 32 minutes into the game when Argentine defender Andres Carevic conceded an own-goal. Encouraged by the home crowed, Atlante quickly responded when Colombian Luis Gabriel Rey leveled the score six minutes later. Rafael Marquez put Atlante ahead for good after 45 minutes from a Rey pass. Christian Bermudez sealed the win in the 68th when he put a shot past America goalie Guillermo Ochoa. The loss was the second in a row for America under the leadership of coach Jesus Ramirez and leaves them in last place in Group 2 with nine points. Atlante's win pulled them out of the basement of Group 1 and boosted their points total to 11. In Torreon, Santos drew 2-2 with Cruz Azul to move to 10 points in Group 1, where leader Pachuca dominates with 20 points. Cruz Azul has 11 points. Daniel Luduena opened the scoring for Santos after just three minutes before Luis Angel Landin equalized for Cruz Azul from a free kick in the 39th Ecuadorean Christian Benitez gave Santos the lead once more in the 53rd minute, but Carlos Vela found the net in the 86th to secure the draw. In Mexico State, Toluca beat Necaxa 1-0 to remain undefeated in the tournament. Mexico midfielder Antonio "Sihna'' Naelson headed in a pass from Carlos Esquivel in the 47th minute to give Toluca the win and 19 points in Group 3. Necaxa suffered their sixth defeat of the Clausura, putting them at the bottom of the group. ![]() |
