Boa Morte recalled to Portugal squad |
LISBON, Portugal (AP) -West Ham winger Luis Boa Morte was recalled to the Portugal squad Friday after a three-year absence. Coach Carlos Queiroz also handed Deportivo La Coruna defender Jose Castro his first call-up as the Portuguese seek to end a four-game winless streak in a World Cup qualifier against Albania on June 6. Portugal must win its game in Tirana to stay in contention in Group 1, where it has taken only six points from five games. Denmark and Hungary lead the group with 13 points. Boa Morte, 31, has made 27 appearances for Portugal but was last called up in August 2006. Queiroz also picked central defender Pepe despite his 10-match league ban in Spain. The Real Madrid player was banned in April for lashing out at a pair of Getafe players during a 3-2 win at Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Since beating Malta in its opening qualifier - Portugal's first match under Queiroz, who took over from Luiz Felipe Scolari almost a year ago - the Portuguese have lost at home against Denmark and played to three goalless draws. After the Albania match Portugal plays a friendly against Estonia on June 10. --- Squad: Goalkeepers: Daniel Fernandes (Bochum), Eduardo (Braga), Beto (Leixoes), Jose Moreira (Benfica).
