Swedish court convicts man for rioting outside Davis Cup event

STOCKHOLM (AP) -- A Swedish court has convicted a 24-year-old man for rioting outside Israel's Davis Cup tennis match in Sweden.

The Malmo district court on Wednesday sentenced the man to nine months in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of $17,200.

The Swede was one of 10 people arrested after protesting Israel's offensive in Gaza. Previously, an 18-year-old was sentenced to 15 months in prison for the riots. A third man was acquitted Wednesday because of lack of evidence.

The matches were played without spectators after Malmo city officials said they could not guarantee security at the venue.

The decision cost the Swedish tennis federation $25,000 in fines, and Malmo was banned from hosting Davis Cup matches for five years.
