Andy Roddick Yes, for winning the Memphis tournament, his first title of 2009. But also for announcing that he would not defend his title in Dubai in protest of the UAE's refusal to grant a visa to Shahar Peer -- without grandstanding; just making a firm and simple statement. For all the spin last week, this was a show of spine.

 | Tennis Faced with the unpleasantness of the Dubai situation, here's where things stand now: an Israeli male player was granted a visa to play this week. The aggrieved Shahar Peer was compensated both financially and with ranking points. The WTA showed some muscle, fining the Dubai event $300,000 and demanding assurances for next year. Players, including Venus Williams during her trophy presentation, uniformly supported Peer. At worst, it was effective crisis management. At best, the sport showed a real collective conscience.

Lleyton Hewitt Aussie beats James Blake and then takes a set off of Roddick en route to reaching Memphis semis. Also takes a wild card into Key Biscayne. This on the heels of playing in San Jose. Sure seems like he's serious about relocating to the U.S. Now all he needs to do is gain 20 lbs., develop an indefensible fondness for American Idol and think nothing of wearing sweatpants and crocs on a plane like the guy to my right.
