Last Week: 1 |
Renee Montgomery continues her climb in the Huskies' record books. In Saturday's win over West Virginia, Montgomery moved into 10th place on the school's career scoring list with 1,603 points. She's now just one of three players, along with Svetlana Abrosimova and Shea Ralph, to rank in the top 10 in scoring, steals and assists. She'll likely join them on the list of national title winners, too. Next three: 1/13 vs. DePaul; 1/17 vs. Syracuse; 1/19 at North Carolina |

Sylvia Hatchell's entrance into the 800-win club didn't come easily. The Tar Heels are hoping it didn't come with a cost, too. Top scorer Jessica Breland went down with a sprained right ankle in Sunday's win over N.C. State. The injury gave freshman Chay Shegog the chance to shine. The 6-5 rookie notched 15 points and nine rebounds against the Wolfpack. Next three: 1/16 vs. Virginia; 1/19 vs. Connecticut; 1/22 at Georgia Tech |

Last Week: 3 |
Freshman Whitney Hand is stepping up her game at just the right time. Hand has scored 39 points and dished out 11 assists in the last three games. And with home matchups against Kansas State and Texas A&M this week, Hand and the Sooners have a chance to get a leg up in the Big 12 race. Next three: 1/14 vs. Kansas State; 1/18 vs. Texas A&M; 1/21 at Colorado |

Last Week: 5 |
The Bears may have one of the most underrated frontcourt tandems in the nation. Teaming up for 28.9 points and 15.9 rebounds a game, Danielle Wilson and Rachel Allison have Baylor on a seven-game winning streak. Allison's range makes her an even bigger threat. She's shooting nearly 40 percent beyond the arc. Next three: 1/14 vs. Iowa State; 1/17 vs. Oklahoma State; 1/21 at Texas A&M |

Last Week: 6 |
Auburn has had quite a bit of early success in recent seasons, only to watch the momentum slip away in conference play. This may be the year the Tigers change that pattern. Just two games in, they're already off to a roaring start. Auburn is 2-0 in the SEC for the first time in more than 10 years. Next three: 1/18 at Arkansas; 1/22 vs. Alabama; 1/25 vs. Tennessee |

Last Week: 7 |
You'll have a hard time finding anyone facing a tougher stretch than the Aggies. After hosting Texas Tech on Tuesday, they've got three top 25 teams looming, including a road trip to Oklahoma and a matchup with Baylor. Both are in the top five. Next three: 1/18 at Oklahoma; 1/21 vs. Baylor; 1/24 at Oklahoma State |

Last Week: 8 |
The Blue Devils have put things together, winning 10 straight since getting upset by Hartford in November. They're getting consistent play in the paint, where senior Chante Black has scored at least 10 points every game. Black could have her hands full against a Maryland team that has three players matching her eight rebounds a game. Next three: 1/16 at Virginia Tech; 1/19 at N.C. State; 1/25 vs. Georgia Tech |

Last Week: 9 |
It's a good thing Tara VanDerveer took her team on the road before starting conference play. Let's face it, the Pac-10 certainly isn't going to prepare the Cardinal for the NCAA tournament. The league is just 4-14 against Top 25 teams. Stanford has three of those wins. Next three: 1/18 at California; 1/22 at Oregon; 1/24 at Oregon State |

Last Week: 11 |
Angel McCoughtry was ready for the start of the Big East season. McCoughtry, who averages 21.2 points, has been even more productive in league play. She's scoring 28 a game against conference opponents and dropped in 31 in a win over Rutgers on Sunday. Next three: 1/14 at USF; 1/17 at Georgetown; 1/20 vs. Cincinnati |

Last Week: 4 |
The Lady Vols have had their moments -- like coming back from a 20-point deficit to win at Rutgers. But, Tennessee has yet to string those moments together consistently for 40 minutes. It may be expected with a young team, but that doesn't make the lack of effort any less frustrating for coach Pat Summitt, as expressed in her post-game speech after the Lady Vols lost to Vanderbilt on Sunday. "We have only played, at best, one good half," she said. Next three: 1/15 at Mississippi State; 1/18 vs. South Carolina; 1/22 at Arkansas |

Last Week: 12 |
California's defense has allowed just 44.5 points a game since the start of Pac-10 play. That defense will face a much bigger challenge with Stanford coming to Berkeley on Sunday. Next three: 1/18 vs. Stanford; 1/22 at Oregon State; 1/24 at Oregon |

Last Week: 14 |
Junior Erica Williamson is emerging as a solid scoring option in the paint. The 6-4 center is coming off her two best games of the season. Williamson, who averages 6.2 points and 4.6 rebounds, led the Irish with 20 points and nine rebounds against DePaul. She added her first double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds) against Georgetown on Saturday. Next three: 1/13 at Marquette; 1/17 vs. St. John's; 1/24 at Villanova |

Last Week: 15 |
Sophomore Jantel Lavender is having an even better season than the one that helped her become the first freshman to win Big Ten Player of the Year honors. Lavender has already matched her 13 double-doubles from a year ago. She's even averaging a double-double, leading the league with 21.7 points and 11.3 rebounds a game. Next three: 1/15 vs. Minnesota; 1/22 vs. Illinois; 1/25 at Purdue |

Last Week: NR |
Virginia enjoyed the home court advantage for the last eight games. Now, it's time to go on the road. After topping Tennessee in Knoxville, the Cavs have every reason to believe they can succeed at UNC on Friday. Next three: 1/16 at North Carolina; 1/21 at Virginia Tech; 1/23 vs. Florida State |

Last Week: 13 |
Maryland might have come up short against Duke on Monday, but the Terps drew plenty of praise from coach Brenda Frese. And deservedly so. With veteran Marissa Coleman battling leg cramps and leading scorer Kristi Toliver struggling early on the offensive end, the Terrapins still had a chance to pull off the upset on the road. "We look at this almost like a win," Frese said. "The way that the team fought and battled in the second half makes me very proud of this team." Next three: 1/15 at Clemson; 1/18 vs. Virginia Tech; 1/25 vs. North Carolina |

Last Week: 10 |
One of the highest scoring offenses in the country has been held in check in recent weeks. The Longhorns, who rank 10th with 78 points a game, were held below 70 in three of the last four games. All ended in losses for Texas, which started the season at 11-0. Next three: 1/14 vs. Nebraska; 1/17 vs. Colorado; 1/25 at Oklahoma |
