Free agent shortstop Orlando Cabrera is close to a deal with the Cincinnati Reds, sources confirm.

Cabrera picked the Reds over the Rockies. By going to Cincinnati, Cabrera will remain at shortstop. The Rockies were eyeing him as a second baseman. The Nationals, who seek a middle infielder, also showed interest.

Cabrera hit .284 with Oakland and Minnesota last season, playing in 160 games. Cabrera has played in five of the last six postseasons with the Red Sox, Angels, White Sox and Twins. Yahoo reported he'll sign for $3 million with Cincinnati.
