George Steinbrenner's family is planning a small private funeral for the immediate family that is likely to be held Saturday in Tampa, according to people close to the late Yankees owner. Tampa is the adopted hometown of Steinbrenner, who died early Tuesday morning after a heart attack at age 80.

There will be memorials held at George M. Steinbrenner Field -- the Yankees' spring training home in Tampa -- and later in New York -- probably at Yankee Stadium -- where dignitaries will honor the man who bought the Yankees in January 1973 and became sports' most iconic owner.

Steinbrenner was taken to St. Joseph's hospital in Tampa sometime in the very early morning hours Tuesday, just after midnight, and died around 6:30 Tuesday morning.

Steinbrenner's last public appearance was May 16 at the newly-dedicated Steinbrenner High School in Lutz, Florida.
