OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Jack Diesing Sr., who played a prominent role in the growth of the College World Series in Omaha, has died. He was 92.

CWS Inc. President Jack Diesing Jr., confirmed his father passed away Wednesday afternoon at an Omaha nursing home from complications from Parkinson's disease.

The elder Diesing served as chairman of the CWS from 1963-2002. He also was an Omaha businessman.

His son credits his father with, among other things, setting a strong foundation for the series, calling it "one of the diamonds in the rough here in our fare city."

A funeral service will be held April 14 in Omaha.
