Tom Brady took the occasion of being surrounded by media to talk about Patriots Nation. The Patriots quarterback spoke to a large assembly of media in the locker room [Wednesday] about the challenges the team faces this Sunday against the New York Jets, and the disappointment he felt when he saw so many empty seats in the second half at Gillette Stadium in the season opening win over the Bengals. "The road environment is very different than our friendly home crowd, who when I looked up, half the stadium was gone when we were up 21 points early fourth quarter, which I wasn't so happy about," Brady said. "I don't think the Jets fans leave early. They're going to be loud the whole game." (The Boston Globe) Comment
Coming off a nice showing as a role player with Team USA, Andre Iguodala could return as a sporting player in Philly, but does he want that? If you allow yourself to dream, you could envision a world where Doug Collins creates an offensive system where Jason Kapono is open for three pointers in the corner, Evan Turner is hitting pull-up jumpshots, Jrue Holiday is creating transition opportunities with his defense, and Elton Brand is effective as a block option. Within that world, Iguodala is doing exactly what he should be doing: slamming Holiday's alley-oop tosses, grabbing rebounds, running the lanes, and playing swarming on-ball defense. [Asked if] he agreed with the theory that he is best suited in a secondary role. "Not really," Iguodala said. (Philadelphia Inquirer) Comment
Mike McCarthy reportedly heaped praise on A.J. Hawk in August, saying he was having the best camp of his NFL career. A month later, Hawk didn't play a single snap from scrimmage for the Packers in their season-opening victory at Philadelphia. After starting 62 of 65 games in his Packers' career, the former first-round draft pick appears to have reached the point where his best opportunity to be a key contributor on defense might be with another team. There's still more than a month before the NFL's Oct. 19 trading deadline and although Hawk's agent, Mike McCartney, stressed that Hawk remains committed to the team that drafted him fifth overall in 2006, he indicated that Hawk would be willing to change teams if it meant more playing time.
