Cowher to coach Giants in 2011?

While Tom Coughlin is shouldering the blame for Big Blue's Sunday loss, he may not see the end of his contract in New York. Coughlin has one year left on his contract, and the Giants will have to decide after 2010 whether to re-up Coughlin's deal -- or whether to move on. If they choose to thank the 64-year-old coach for his contributions and pay him not to work for the franchise in 2011, the most obvious candidate to replace him becomes Bill Cowher. The 15-year coach of the Steelers, who resigned after the 2006 season, recently said that he's looking for the "right situation." (Profootballtalk.com) Comment

Tigers mull winter housecleaning

Not even the manager knows what Detroit will look like in 2011. "You probably could say you got Miguel Cabrera and Austin Jackson." As far as everyday guarantees, that's about it. The Tigers do have the makings of a fine starting rotation, with Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer at the top. Rick Porcello also should be better. Cabrera is having an MVP season, but obviously, they need more hitters. They definitely need more bullpen guys and more gamers, veterans who don't get shaken by big moments. There's no room for sentimentality, and the Tigers showed it last off-season when they dealt Curtis Granderson for Jackson, which worked out nicely. (Detroit Free Press) Comment

Nuggets willing to deal all but two

Denver is reportedly still hard at work looking for a way to move Carmelo Anthony, and possibly begin to rebuild right away. The Nuggets have made every player on their roster, except for point guards Chauncey Billups and Ty Lawson, available in the discussions, a league executive said. Along with the unloading of their franchise star, the Nuggets appear willing to overhaul their roster and send out players such as Kenyon Martin, Nene and J.R. Smith. (Yahoo! Sports) Comment
