Though few believe Derek Jeter would sign elsewhere, the Yankees appear uninterested in making it a fait accompli. Yankee president Randy Levine said Wednesday that Jeter is "allowed to test the market" and that it's "a different negotiation than 10 years ago," adding further intrigue to the developing talks with the free-agent shortstop. ... "All I can say is we think he's a great Yankee, we think he's been a great Yankee and we've been great for him and this is the best place for him," Levine said. "But he's a free agent and he's allowed to test the market and do whatever he wants." (New York Daily News) Comment

Albert Haynesworth has his reasons for missing out on an important play against Philadelphia. "I got taken out by friendly fire. It was Vonnie Holliday. He ran into my leg. I had like a charley horse in my thigh. I knocked him back, I thought I heard the whistle, so I stayed there for a second and gathered myself. Presented with a choice between chilling and work, Chris Bosh may want to coose ... his words more carefully. "I guess [Erik Spoelstra] felt that he was loosening up just a little bit too much," Bosh said. "And he knows that he has to meet us halfway. He wants to work. We want to chill.
