PERTH, Australia (AP) -Ex-test winger Scott Staniforth has been forced into retirement due to a recurring neck problem.

The Western Force announced Wednesday that Staniforth, who played 12 tests for Australia and 106 matches in Super Rugby competitions, would end his 13-year professional career immediately.

He injured his neck in a Super 14 match against the Johannesburg-based Lions in May and, after treatment, made a return to domestic club rugby until he aggravated the problem.

The 32-year-old Staniforth said Australia's triumph at the 1999 World Cup was his career highlight.

He played for the New South Wales Waratahs and the England-based London Irish clubs before joining the Force in 2006 as a foundation player.
