| 2010 NCAA Tournament Projection |
In this bracket, the Midwest matches
up with the West, the South with the East in the national semifinals.
Note: The top-four
seeds in each region, starting with the No. 1 seeds, receive geographic preference when possible. An imbalance in
high seeds between regions (e.g. if more
than two top-four seeds are closest to the same subregional location) may force a protected seed into a secondary
location. Thus, in the next couple weeks, shifts
in seeding will alter which subregions fall into which regions.

2:54 P.M. ET UPDATE: EVEN AFTER LOSS, 'CUSE STILL A NO. 1
Assuming Arinze Onuaku's knee is OK, today's quarterfinal loss to Georgetown should not cost Syracuse a No. 1 seed. The Orange are the solo regular-season Big East champs, have five top-25 wins (including four in the top 10) and don't have a bad loss all season. They were the No. 2 overall seed entering today for a reason, and 30-plus games of good work isn't undone in a couple of games.
According to Luke Winn, though, the Orange won't definitively know whether Onuaku is OK until an MRI is done tomorrow. If his knee is a problem for the NCAAs, that could create enough doubt for the committee that they could go another direction if presented with enough viable options. That likely would require a combination of three teams from Duke, Ohio State/Purdue, Kentucky and West Virginia to all win their conference tournaments.
OTHER SEEDING NOTES
-- Marquette keeps getting
squeezed by the higher Big East seeds. With two Big East 1s and a 4, there was only one regional left for a Big East 8/9 seed, and that's Kentucky's. UK is
in the Milwaukee subregional, though, where Marquette is the host and can't play. Therefore, Notre Dame moves into that 9, even though the Irish are behind
Marquette in natural seeding.
-- Cal was a natural 10 that was bumped up a slot for now, switching with Utah State.
-- Oklahoma State's having
a similar issue with Big 12 teams pushing it down to a 10.
-- Florida State moved up to an 8 to fill Louisville's spot.
