Holliday returns to Cardinals lineup

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- St. Louis Cardinals cleanup hitter Matt Holliday is back in the starting lineup against San Francisco, nine days after undergoing an appendectomy.

Holliday is batting in his usual cleanup spot against the Giants on Sunday. He had played in only one game this year, going 3 for 4 with a home run in the team's season-opening loss to San Diego.

The Cardinals had lost three straight games and were 2-6 this season, their worst start since 1997.
