-
- Albert Pujols
- Position: 1B
- SI Rank: 1
- Contract: 10 years, $250 million
- Skinny: It took a quarter-of-a-billion dollars to convince the game's greatest hitter to leave the only organization he's ever knwon. Pujols will give the Angels' the fearsome bat they lacked in recent years.
-
- Prince Fielder
- Position: 1B
- SI Rank: 2
- Contract: 9 years, $214 million
- Skinny: The Tigers weren't thought to be in the running for Fielder but after losing Victor Martinez for all of 2012 to injury, they swooped in and grabbed the best slugger by far left on the market.
-
- Jose Reyes
- Position: SS
- SI Rank: 3
- Contract: 6 years, $106 million
- Skinny: Reyes is coming off a season that exemplifies his good news/bad news career; he won a batting title but also missed significant time due to repeated leg injuries. When healthy, he's still a dynamic all-around player.
-
- C.J. Wilson
- Position: SP
- SI Rank: 4
- Contract: 5 years, $77.5 million
- Skinny: Wilson is being paid like an ace but he doesn't have to be. He'll slot behind Jered Weaver and maybe even Dan Haren and Ervin Santana, to give the Angels one of the best rotations in baseball.
-
- Jonathan Papelbon
- Position: RP
- SI Rank: 5
- Contract: 4 years, $50 million
- Skinny: Papelbon will replace Ryan
Madson, who the Phillies nearly re-signed earlier this week, as the stopper
in Philadelphia. The 29-year-old was superb for the Red Sox in 2011 (2.94
ERA, 31 SVs) and it should be more of the same in Philadelphia.
-
- Heath Bell
- Position: RP
- SI Rank: 6
- Contract: 3 years, $27 million
- Skinny: With Leo Nunez's future unclear, the Marlins went out and signed former Padres closer Heath Bell to a three-year deal, solidifying the back of their bullpen. Bell had more than 40 saves each of the last three seasons and finished 2011 with 43 saves in 48 chances and a 2.44 ERA.
-
- Carlos Beltran
- Position: OF
- SI Rank: 7
- Contract: 2 years, $26 million
- Skinny: Beltran had a strong bounce-back season in 2011, but age and injury remain question marks.
-
- David Ortiz
- Position: DH
- SI Rank: 8
- Contract: Accepted arbitration
- Skinny: Though he doesn't have a new deal yet, Ortiz will be back in Boston for at least one more season after having his best overall season since 2007 last year.
-
- Aramis Ramirez
- Position: 3B
- SI Rank: 9
- Contract: 3 years, $36 million
- Skinny: The Brewers will need offense in 2012 as they look to defend their division title and Ramirez can help, having averaged 30 home runs a season in his 14 years in the majors.
-

- Position: SS
- SI Rank: 10
- Contract: 3 years, $38 million
- Skinny: Rollins stayed with the Phillies for a shorter and cheaper deal than he may have been hoping for.
-
- Carlos Pena
- Position: 1B
- SI Rank: 11
- Contract: 1 year, $7.25 million
- Skinny: Pena returns to the Rays after one season with the Cubs. He'll slide right in at first base and the middle of an order that could use his power.
-
- Ryan Madson
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: 12
- Contract: 1 year, $8.5 million
- Skinny: The Reds replaced 37-year-old Francisco Cordero with Madson, 31. The deal includes a mutual option for 2013. He'll close, but should Madson falter there's always Aroldis Chapman.
-
- Francisco Rodriguez
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: 13
- Contract: Accepted arbitration
- Skinny: K-Rod won't get the $17.5 million for next year he once had an option for. If the Brewers don't trade or release him, he could continue to be an effective set-up man for John Axford.
-
- Josh Willingham
- Position: OF
- SI Rank: 14
- Contract: 3 years, $21 million
- Skinny: Willingham is on the move again -- the Twins will be his fourth team in the past five years -- but he's hit wherever he's been, averaging 22 home runs a year in his six full seasons.
-
- Mark Buehrle
- Position: LHP
- SI Rank: 15
- Contract: 4 years, $58 million
- Skinny: Buehrle gives the Marlins a proven winner and innings-eater and a reliable No. 2 to pair with Josh Johnson in the rotation.
-
- Coco Crisp
- Position: OF
- SI Rank: 16
- Contract: 2 years, $14 million
- Skinny: Crisp, 32, hit .264 with eight home runs and 49 steals for the A's last year. He'll be the lone returning starting outfielder with the departure of Josh Willingham and David DeJesus.
-
- Michael Cuddyer
- Position: OF
- SI Rank: 17
- Contract: 3 years, $30 million
- Skinny: Cuddyer made the first All-Star team of his 11-year career in 2011 and brings a solid bat with pop to the Rockies' lineup.
-
- Rafael Furcal
- Position: SS
- SI Rank: 18
- Contract: 2 years, $14 million
- Skinny: Furcal, 34, hit .231 with eight home runs in 87 games last season, missing time (again) due to injury. He was better after joining the Cardinals, batting .255, and is still a quality fielder.
-
- Edwin Jackson
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: 19
- Contract: 1 year, $11 million
- Skinny: Jackson gives the Nationals' rotation a much-needed innings eater, and now joins Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann and Gio Gonzalez to give Washington a potent top four.

- Contract: Accepted arbitration
- Skinny: Johnson hit .270 after being traded to Toronto at midseason and has topped 20 home runs each of the past two years.
-
- Grady Sizemore
- Position: OF
- SI Rank: 21
- Contract: 1 year, $5 million
- Skinny: Sizemore hasn't been healthy in three years but the Indians are holding out hope he can return to his All-Star form.
-
- Jason Kubel
- Position: OF
- SI Rank: 23
- Contract: 2 years, $15 million
- Skinny: Kubel's numbers have fallen off dramatically since his career year in 2009 but he's still just 29 years old.
-
- Hiroki Kuroda
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: 24
- Contract: 1 year, $10 million
- Skinny: Kuroda was said to prefer the West Coast, but he'll come east for a year to help the Yankees try and defend their division title.
-
- Erik Bedard
- Position: LHP
- SI Rank: 28
- Contract: 1 year, $4.5 million
- Skinny: Bedard has made at least 30 starts just once in his eight full major league seasons but he's experienced and cheap and for the Pirates, that's worth making a virtually risk-free deal.
-
- Wilson Betemit
- Position: 3B
- SI Rank: 29
- Contract: 2 years, $3.25 million
- Skinny: Betemit, a veteran infielder, gives the Orioles some pop in the lineup and flexibility on defense.
-
- Paul Maholm
- Position: RHF
- SI Rank: 30
- Contract: 1 year, $4.25 million
- Skinny: The deal includes a club option for 2013. Maholm, 29, went 6-14 with a 3.66 ERA for the Pirates last year and will slide into the middle of the Cubs' rebuilding rotation.
-
- Aaron Harang
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: 31
- Contract: two years, $12 million
- Skinny: Harang, who posted a career-best 3.64 ERA for San Diego in 2011, gives the Dodgers a work-horse veteran in the starting rotation.
-
- Francisco Cordero
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: 33
- Contract: 1 year, $4.5 million
- Skinny: Cordero's gaudy save totals weren't enough to get him a multi-year contract or even a closer's job; he'll be a set-up man in Toronto.
-
- Casey Kotchman
- Position: 1B
- SI Rank: 34
- Contract: 1 year, $3 million
- Skinny: The Indians have been searching for a first baseman and Kotchman could be a solid fit, as a .300 hitter with some pop and a strong glove.
-
- Frank Francisco
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: 37
- Contract: 2 years, $12 million
- Skinny: Francisco posted a 3.55 ERA with 17 saves in 21 chances for the Blue Jays in 2011 and figures to take over the Mets' closer, a problem spot for the club after it dealt Francisco Rodriguez to the Brewers.
-
- Darren Oliver
- Position: LHP
- SI Rank: 38
- Contract: 1 year, terms N/A
- Skinny: Despite his inability to close out the World Series for the Rangers, the 41-year-old Oliver is still effective. His 2.29 ERA in 2011 was the best of his 18 major league seasons.
-
- Ramon Hernandez
- Position: C
- SI Rank: 39
- Contract: 2 years, $6.4 million
- Skinny: Hernandez was a solid contributor for three years in Cincinnati but hasn't caught more than 100 games since 2008, when he was with Baltimore.
-
- Joe Nathan
- Position: RP
- SI Rank: 40
- Contract: 2 years, $13 million
- Skinny:The Rangers bolstered their
bullpen with the addition of closer Joe Nathan. After returning from Tommy
John surgery, Nathan struggled at times during 2011, but Texas is hoping the
closer with a career 2.87 ERA can bonuce back in 2012. With the move, the
Rangers will move Netfali Feliz to the rotation.
-
- Aaron Hill
- Position: 2B
- SI Rank: 41
- Contract: 2 years, $11 million
- Skinny: The Diamondbacks kept Hill after
declining his $8 million options for 2012 and 2013. Hill, 29, hit .315 with
two home runs and 16 RBI after coming over from the Blue Jays in August.
-
- George Sherrill
- Position: LHP
- SI Rank: 42
- Contract: 1 year, $1.1 million
- Skinny: Sherrill, 34, returns to the club that he broke into the big leagues with in 2004. He posted a 3.00 ERA for the Braves last season and will likely slot into the role of lefty specialist for the M's.
-
- Alex Gonzalez
- Position: SS
- SI Rank: 43
- Contract: 1 year, N/A
- Skinny: Gonzalez fills one of Milwaukee's biggest offensive needs and still has pop (15 home runs in 2011) heading into his age-35 season.
-
- Brad Lidge
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: 44
- Contract: 1 year, $1 million
- Skinny: Lidge returned from injury to have a solid second-half in 2011 but could only land a one-year deal to be a set-up man in Washington.
-
- Takashi Saito
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: 46
- Contract: 1 year, $1.75 million
- Skinny: Saito is coming off an outsanding season at age 41, posting a 2.03 ERA for the NL central champion Brewers.

- Skinny: Pierre stole 27 bases for the White Sox last year but he was also caught a major-league-high 17 times.
-
- Jerry Hairston, Jr.
- Position: OF
- SI Rank: 48
- Contract: 2 years, $6 million
- Skinny: Hairston, 35, will be a key cog on the Dodgers' bench, able to fill in anywhere in the outfield and at 2B, SS and 3B. He could make a push for extended playing time up the middle behind Mark Ellis and Dee Gordon.
-
- Andrew Brackman
- Position: RHP

-
- Clint Barmes
- Position: SS
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 2 years, $11 million
- Skinny: Barmes showed decent pop with the Astros last year, hitting 12 home runs, but his .312 on-base percentage was actually the second-highest in his five full seasons.
-
- Henry Blanco
- Position: C
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $1.25 million
- Skinny: Blanco has bounced around plenty
in his career -- Arizona is his ninth team in 14 seasons -- but he'll be
back with the D-backs in 2012 as the caddy for All-Star Miguel Montero.
-
- Willie Bloomquist
- Position: SS
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 2 years, $3.8 million
- Skinny: Bloomquist has played every
position but catcher and pitcher in his career but he's likely to be most
valuable as a back-up infielder for Arizona the next two seasons.
-
- Jamey Carroll
- Position: SS
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 2 years, $6.75 million
- Skinny: Carroll, 37, played all over the
infield for the Dodgers last year, but in Minnesota he's expected to play
shortstop full time. The light-hitting infielder should provide stability
for a Twins team that received very little production at the position last
year.
-
- Ryan Doumit
- Position: C
- Contract: 1 year, $3 million
- Skinny: Doumit can help back-up at
catcher, first base and rightfield, which will all be positions of need for
the Twins, especially if former MVPs Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau have more
injury problems.

- Position: OF
- Contract: 2 years, $10 million
- Skinny: DeJesus will battle for a starting outfield spot with the Cubs in Year One of the Theo Epstein/Dale Sveum regime.

Rockies in 2011.
-
- Mark Kotsay

-
- Laynce Nix
- Position: OF/1B
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 2 years
- Skinny: Nix adds depth to a reshaped bench. The Phillies previously added Jim Thome and Ty Wigginton. He hit .250 with a career-high 16 home runs and 44 RBIs in 124 games for the Washington Nationals last season.
-
- Juan Rivera
- Position: OF
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $4.5 million
- Skinny: Rivera found a spark after being
traded from the Blue Jays to the Dodgers for a player to be named at
midseason, driving in 46 runs in 62 games compared to 28 in 70 games in
Toronto.
-
- Fernando Rodney
- Position: RHP
- Contract: 1 year, $2 million
- Skinny: Rodney's career ERA (4.29) isn't stellar but he can either save or be a useful set-up man and doesn't cost the penny-pinching Rays much cash.
-
- Brian Schneider
- Position: C
- Contract: 1 year, $800,000
- Skinny: Schneider was something of a
good-luck charm for the Phillies in 2011; they went 28-8 in games he
started.
-
- Jim Thome
- Position: 1B/PH
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $1.25 million
- Skinny: Thome returns to Philadelphia
where he'll provide some needed pop off the bench and could even play some
1B if Ryan Howard is slow to heal from injury.
-
- Matt Treanor
- Position: C
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $850,000
- Skinny: Treanor, 35, figures to be A.J.

deal includes a club option for 2013.
-
- Ramon Santiago
- Position: SS
- Contract: 2 years, $4 million
- Skinny: Santiago's primarily skill is his ability to play three infield positions and play them all well, making him a useful utility player for Detroit.
-
- Matt Capps
- Position: RHP
- Contract: 1 year, $4.75 million
- Skinny: With Joe Nathan now in Texas, Capps figures to be the Twins full-time closer again.
-
- Adam Kennedy
- Position: 2B
- Contract: 1 year, $800,000
- Skinny: Kennedy had his best offensive years when playing for L.A.'s "other" team but he's below-average now, having posted just a .277 OBP in 2011.

- Position: OF
- Contract: Signed with a team in Japan
-
- Jon Rauch
- Position: RHP
- Contract: 1 year, $3.5 million

-
- Lyle Overbay
- Position: 1B
- Contract: 1 year, $1 million
- Skinny: Overbay is one of the best defensive first basemen in the game but his hitting has diminished. He hit just nine home runs in 2011, his fewest in a full season since 2003.
-
- Nate McLouth
- Position: OF
- Contract: 1 year, $1.75 million
- Skinny: McLouth went from an All-Star with Pittsburgh to a demoted spare part with the Braves. The Pirates are hoping a return to Pittsburgh rejuvenates his career.
-
- Octavio Dotel
- Position: RHP
- Contract: 1 year, N/A
- Skinny: Dotel is still an effective power arm who can close games if need be. He should fit in well in front of the Tigers' effective bullpen that is anchored by Jose Valverde.
-
- LaTroy Hawkins

for the Yankees, returned to the majors with the Nats in July after missing
two years because of a shoulder injury and went 4-3 in 11 starts.
-
- Kelly Shoppach
- Position: C
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $1.35 million
- Skinny: Shoppach, 31, returns to the franchise that drafted him in 2001. He figures to back up Jarrod Saltalamacchia, which could very well signal the end of the Jason Varitek era in Boston.
-
- J.C. Romero
- Position: LHP
- Contract: 1 year, $750,000
- Skinny: Romero has been a dependable lefty for years; opposing lefthanded batters have hit just .216 against him in his career.
-
- Dontrelle Willis
- Position: LHP
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year
- Skinny: Willis made 13 starts with a 5.00 ERA for the Reds last season, probably his best year since 2006. He inked an incentive-laden deal with the Phillies, where he's likely ticketed for a bullpen role.
-
- Andruw Jones
- Position: OF
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $2 million
- Skinny: Jones, 34, can earn another $1.45 million in incentives. He hit .247 with 13 homers as a backup outfielder/DH last season and proved to be quite useful, still, against lefties. He'll likely keep the same role.
-
- Mark DeRosa
- Position: 1B
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year
- Skinny: DeRosa, 36, moves on to his seventh team after totaling 73 games the last two years with the Giants. He'll likely be used in his usual utility role.
-
- Greg Dobbs
- Position: 3B
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 2 years
- Skinny: Dobbs hit .275 with eight home runs over 411 at-bats last year, the busiest of his eight MLB seasons. With Hanley Ramirez set to move to third, Dobbs will return to a bench role.
-
- Reed Johnson
- Position: OF
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $1.5 million
- Skinny: Johnson sticks with the Cubs, with whom he hit 309 as a part-time outfielder. His role doesn't expect to change.
-
- Jack Wilson
- Position: SS
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $1 million
- Skinny: Wilson returns to the Braves, who may see Tyler Pastornicky rise up and grab the shortstop job. Wilson hit .220 after being acquired from the M's last year.
-
- Ronny Cedeno
- Position: SS
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $1.5 million
- Skinny: Cedeno, 29, is known more for his glove than his bat and joins his fourth team in five seasons. He should be a backup at second base and shortstop.
-
- Kerry Wood
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $3 million
- Skinny: Was there any doubt Wood would return to the Cubs? The fan favorite will return as a setup man and turns 35 in June.
-
- Brad Hawpe
- Position: OF
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: Minor League
- Skinny: Hawpe is coming off August Tommy John surgery, ending a forgettable season with the Padres (.231, four home runs). At 32, his best days appear to be behind him.
-
- Chris Snyder
- Position: C
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year
- Skinny: Snyder only played 34 games last season, undergoing season-ending back surgery in June for a herniated disk. He'll split time with Humberto Quintero until Jason Castro returns from a torn ACL.
-
- Joel Zumaya
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $800,000
- Skinny: The deal contains plenty of performance bonuses for the oft-injured flamethrower. Zumaya missed all of last season after elbow surgery and should start out as a middle-relief option.
-
- Vicente Padilla
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: Minor League
- Skinny: The soft-throwing Padilla, 34, is coming off neck surgery but was reliable enough to pick up three saves for the Dodgers in a shortened 2011. A rotation spot is open, but his best shot to make the club is as a reliever.
-
- Rodrigo Lopez
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: Minor League
- Skinny: Lopez, 36, will get a spring training invite and a chance to keep his spot in the rotation. It won't be easy with Travis Wood, Paul Maholm and Chris Volstad in town. Lopez went 6-6 with a 4.42 ERA in 26 games for the Cubs in 2011.
-
- Joel Pineiro
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: Minor League
- Skinny: Given the Phillies' pitching depth, it'll be tough for Pineiro to crack the rotation. He started 24 games for the Angels last season, going 7-7 with a 5.13 ERA.
-
- Bartolo Colon
- Position: RHP
- SI Rank: NR
- Contract: 1 year, $2 million
- Skinny: Colon, 38, had a bounce-back year with the Yankees in 2011, going 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA. He'll bring experience to a very young pitching staff.
-
- Omar Vizquel
- Position: SS
- Contract: 1 year, minor league deal
- Skinny: The Blue Jays are willing to take a chance that the 44-year-old Vizquel still has some magic left in his once golden glove.
