Warriors' Ellis has concussion
Monta Ellis has been diagnosed with a concussion from a hard fall
The Warriors guard landed on his head in Sunday's loss to the Kings
He was released from the hospital Monday, will not travel to Denver
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Monta Ellis' season is over.
The Golden State Warriors guard was diagnosed with a concussion Monday, a day after a hard fall on his head in a 104-103 loss to the Sacramento Kings. Ellis will not play Monday night at Denver or in Wednesday's season finale at home against Portland.
He was released from the hospital after spending the night for further examination following the collision with Kings power forward DeMarcus Cousins. A CT scan confirmed Ellis suffered a concussion.
"Anytime you have a smaller guy get airborne like that and hit the floor without someone breaking the fall, it's always scary," Warriors coach Keith Smart said after the game. "You don't want to see a guy you have great belief in lying on the floor and not knowing where he is."
Ellis led the NBA this season with 40.3 minutes per game. He also averaged 24.1 points, 5.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds and had talked about playing all 82 games for the first time this season.
That goal will have to wait at least another year.
Ellis was already hobbled by a strained right ankle and finished with just seven points and four assists in 26 minutes. He was fouled hard by Cousins on a driving layup late in the fourth quarter, falling head-first onto the floor.
Ellis was briefly motionless and was so woozy when he stood up that teammates had to help him balance. He was helped to the locker room and did not return.
"You could just see in the look in his eyes that he had no idea where he was," teammate David Lee said. "It's a scary moment. I've been there before, where guys assume you're fine because you're getting up but you have no idea where you're at. He kinda was going to the line because he had to shoot free throws, but he was going toward the fans.
"I was like, 'No, come on trainer, get out here. Get him."'
