New Canadian hoops league looking for commissioner
TORONTO (AP) - With less than a month before starting its first season, the National Basketball League is still looking for a commissioner.
The seven-team league in Canada had been set to announce its commissioner Monday before the hiring fell through.
League president Andre Levingston said "unforeseen circumstances within the agreement arose at the 11th hour that would have put the league in an uncompromising financial position.''
The NBL was formed when three existing teams left the Premier Basketball League - the Halifax Rainmen, Saint John Mill Rats and Quebec Kebs. Four NBL franchises have since been formed: the London Lightning, Oshawa Power, Moncton Miracles, and Summerside Storm.
Each team plays a 36-game schedule that begins Oct. 29.
