PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Towson University has hired Pittsburgh assistant Pat Skerry as its new coach.
Skerry, who will be introduced in a campus press conference on Tuesday, replaces Pat Kennedy, who resigned last month after seven seasons. The Tigers went 0-18 in the Colonial Athletic Association this year.
Before joining Jamie Dixon's staff at Pitt, Skerry was an assistant at Providence, Rhode Island, College of Charleston, William & Mary and Northeastern.
Skerry, a native of Medford, Mass., helped lead the Panthers (28-6) to the Big East regular-season title this year and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, before they lost to Butler 71-70 in the second round.
Kennedy's run came to a discouraging end with the Tigers (4-26), as they lost the final 19 games of the season. Their wins came over Coppin State, Western Michigan, UMBC, and La Salle.
