The Art Of The Sports Bar
The SI.com office is located in the heart of midtown Manhattan. This is basically the worst area in all of New York City. One of the main things we're lacking -- besides an affordable lunch place with good food -- is a top-notch sports bar. Let me tell you a quick story about how serious a problem this is. On the night of the NFL Draft, I went to a local restaurant/bar with my friend,
Sal Licata from SNY TV in New York. Unfortunately for Sal, he's a Mets fan, and wanted to watch their game that night. The bar wouldn't put it on. They had on the Yankees game, some NHL playoff game and the NFL Draft. They told him they had to leave those on and couldn't put the Mets on even one of the many TVs in the place. Remember, this is a bar in NEW YORK CITY. The point of this story? Midtown needs more sports bars and no matter what town a sports bar is in, it needs to follow
these rules for having the perfect establishment.
