One of the best things about being a baseball fan is that no matter how much you watch the sport, you still see things on a regular basis that make you say, "I've never seen that before." This was the case yesterday when Diamondbacks pitcher Jason Marquis hit Mets catcher Josh Thole with a pitch that resulted in both players hitting the ground in pain. The reason for Marquis' pain? He was pitching with a broken leg.
Speaking Of Baseball Oddities
Giants reliever Santiago Casilla had his first at-bat of the season yesterday against the Marlins. Casilla basically stood in the on-deck circle and made it known that he wouldn't swing under any circumstances. This obviously got in the head of Florida reliever Jose Ceda because he walked Casilla on four pitches. The video is more bizarre than my description.
Get This Guy A Red Bull
The Arena League championship game between the Jacksonville Sharks and Arizona Rattlers took place Friday night. Ed, of Jacksonville, Fla., fills us in on some of the details. He says, "After 17 seasons of the greatest AFL career, Aaron Garcia finally wins the Arena Bowl, and in great fashion. On the last play of the game, Garcia finds Jeron Harvey in the end zone for the win!" After reading Ed's e-mail, I figured something like this would result in a great call by the play-by-play man. Instead, the man behind the mic, Paul Burmeister, channeled his inner Jim Nantz and shunned his inner Gus Johnson and came up with one of the weakest calls you'll never hear for a championship game that comes down to the last play.

Jason K., of Jacksonville, Fla., says, "Jimmy, I think you've featured WWE Diva Kelly Kelly before, but she recently won the women's title and successfully defended it at SummerSlam last night. She's also now a sports WAG. She's dating Dallas Stars defenseman Sheldon Souray. I think you should keep her good fortune going by putting her in Hot Clicks." Jason offered a lot of reasons, so I guess I should feature Kelly Kelly.

Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress is interviewed on the newest edition of HBO's Real Sports, set to air Tuesday night. The New York Post has some details, which include Burress giving his recollection of the night he shot himself in a New York nightclub. However, the most noteworthy nugget is that Burress had no clue who Mayor Mike Bloomberg was when his lawyer was briefing him on his case.
