Keenum becomes FBS leader in completions
HOUSTON (AP) -- Houston senior quarterback Case Keenum set the Football Bowl Subdivision career record for completions in the first quarter of Saturday's game against SMU.
Keenum needed seven completions to eclipse Graham Harrell's FBS record (1,403), set with Texas Tech from 2005-08. He surpassed Harrell's mark on a 22-yard pass to running back Bryce Beall on the Cougars' second series with 6:38 left in the quarter.
On Houston's first drive, Keenum joined Hawaii's Tim Chang (2000-04) as the only players to have three 4,000-yard seasons. Chang played for current SMU coach June Jones.
Earlier this season, Keenum eclipsed Chang's FBS records for total offense and yards passing and Harrell's record for touchdown throws.
