NHL Preseason Capsules
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Francis Wathier and Vernon Fiddler each had a goal and an assist, leading the Dallas Stars to a 4-0 win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
Andrew Raycroft stopped 33 shots for the shutout.
Jake Dowell and Tomas Vincour also scored, and Trevor Daley added a pair of assists for the Stars, who ended their preseason winning six of seven games.
Jaroslav Halak stopped 20 shots, but the Blues, who won five of their eight preseason games, were shut out for the second time at home.
Devils 2, Flyers 1
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - David Clarkson's power-play goal with 4:21 left in the second period, snapped a tie and lifted the New Jersey Devils to a victory over the Flyers.
Petr Sykora added his second goal of the preseason, strengthening his chances of making the team. Sykora scored on a breakaway off a pass from Zach Parise that got by three Flyers at 4:12 of the second.
The Flyers took a 1-0 lead on Scott Hartnell's power-play goal with 3:31 left in the first. Philadelphia used with few regulars, but Ilya Bryzgalov played the entire game and made 18 saves.
Martin Brodeur backstopped New Jersey's regular lineup and stopped 25 shots.
New Jersey (3-3) will open the regular season at home against Philadelphia (4-2-1) next Saturday.
Bruins 3, Islanders 2
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Dennis Seidenberg scored with 8:07 remaining, and the Bruins rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the Islanders.
Tim Thomas played the full game and made 25 saves for Boston, including a stick stop of Frans Nielsen's bad-angle shot during a late power play.
The Bruins got even when David Krejci and Tyler Seguin scored 86 seconds apart in the second period. Krejci beat goalie Evgeni Nabokov from the right circle at 12:22, and Seguin took a pass in front from Brad Marchand at 13:48.
The Islanders built a 2-0 lead on goals by John Tavares and Marty Reasoner. Tavares scored a rebound goal during a 5-on-3 power play in the first period, and Reasoner doubled the advantage off another rebound in the second.
Red Wings 4, Maple Leafs 2
TORONTO (AP) - Darren Helm and Patrick Eaves both had a goal and two assists in the Red Wings' preseason victory against the Maple Leafs.
Detroit's Justin Abdelkader and Tomas Tatar also scored and Ty Conklin made 20 saves for the win. The Red Wings (3-3-1) were 3-for-6 on the power play and won the second half of a home-and-home series after losing 4-3 in overtime on Friday in Detroit.
John-Michael Liles and Joey Crabb had Maple Leafs goals. James Reimer stopped 22 shots in a shaky start. Toronto (4-4) went 1-for-4 on the power play. Maple Leafs center Mikhail Grabovski left after the first period and didn't return.
Predators 2, Hurricanes 1, OT
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Craig Smith scored with 11 seconds left in overtime to lift the Predators to a win over the Hurricanes.
Bryan Allen scored for Carolina (7-1-0), breaking a scoreless tie at 3:38 of the third period. He took a wrist shot from above the left circle that beat Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne to his glove side.
The Predators (1-4-1) tied the game at 1-1 at the 7:41 mark when Patric Hornqvist connected on the power play. He deposited a rebound from close range in front of the crease to beat Carolina goaltender Brian Boucher.
Canadiens 5, Lightning 1
QUEBEC CITY (AP) - Brian Gionta and Scott Gomez scored for the Canadiens, who wrapped up a poor preseason with a rout of the Lightning.
The Canadiens finished a 1-6 preseason and rebounded from a 4-0 loss to the Lightning earlier this week. Mathieu Darche, Erik Cole and Michael Cammalleri had the other goals for Montreal.
Vincent Lecavalier scored the only goal for the Lightning, who were outshot 32-19.
Tampa Bay might be without forward Ryan Malone for a while because of a hit he delivered to the head of defenseman Chris Campoli in the third period. Malone had been involved in several earlier skirmishes and now is at risk for further punishment from NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan. Campoli was forced out the game, just the second he has played since signing with the Canadiens.
