Joe Vann wins Illinois Derby

CICERO, Ill. (AP) - Joe Vann has won the $300,000 Illinois Derby for trainer Todd Pletcher at Hawthorne.

Ridden by Florent Geroux, Joe Vann ran 1 1-18 miles in 1:51.91 on Saturday.

Zoebear was second, followed by The Fed Eased and Sour.

Joe Vann isn't nominated to the Triple Crown series, although Zoebear and The Fed Eased are.

Joe Vann had won his previous two starts by a combined 9 1/2 lengths, but he lost three others by more than 76.
