MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Herculez Gomez scored two goals to help Estudiantes Tecos beat first-place Santos Laguna 5-2 on Saturday night in Mexico's Apertura.

Starting for the first time since Sept. 24 and for just the second time in his last eight appearances, Gomez put the hosts ahead in the second minute, then added his seventh goal of the season in the 15th for a 2-0 lead.

A goal that initially had been credited to Gomez last week against Chivas was changed to an own goal, according to the Mexican federation's statistics.

Gomez was replaced in the 68th minute. After Santos tied it 2-all, Braulio Luna scored a go-ahead goal in the 83rd.

A 29-year-old from Las Vegas, Gomez was acquired from Pachuca during the summer. He was a member of last year's U.S. World Cup team.
