Bedard released by Pirates
The move was made Tuesday before the Pirates hosted St. Louis.
The 33-year-old Bedard went 7-14 with a 5.01 ERA for Pittsburgh after signing a $4.5 million, one-year contract in the offseason. The left-hander pitched well for the first two months before his numbers steadily declined. He was 4-10 over his final 14 starts as his ERA ballooned from 3.12 on May 27 to the worst among Pittsburgh's starters.
Bedard gave up six runs and six hits in a 7-0 loss to Milwaukee on Sunday.
