NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Right-hander Jason Marquis will stay with the San Diego Padres, reaching a $3 million, one-year deal Monday.

The 34-year-old Marquis went 6-7 with a 4.04 ERA in 15 starts for San Diego last season. The Padres signed him as a minor league free agent on May 31 after he went 2-4 with an 8.47 ERA for Minnesota and was released.

Marquis was put on the disabled list Aug. 23 with a broken left wrist that ended his season. Two weeks earlier, he pitched a two-hit shutout against Pittsburgh.

Marquis is 112-109 with a 4.60 ERA in 13 major league season with Atlanta, St. Louis, the Chicago Cubs, Colorado, Washington, Arizona, Minnesota and the Padres.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) A person familiar with the negotiations says first baseman James Loney and the Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to a $2 million, one-year contract.

The agreement is pending a physical, the person said Monday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the deal has not yet been announced. Loney can make an additional $1 million in performance bonuses.

The 28-year-old, dealt to Boston in July as part of the trade that brought Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett to Los Angeles, hit .249 last season with six homers and 41 RBIs. He had 90 RBIs in each of the 2008 and 2009 seasons but his production has steadily declined.
